How to Choose a Good Domain Name
Your domain name is a very important part of your communications with existing and prospective customers. It says a lot about you, and the services you offer.

Avoid Hyphenated domain names

Domain names that include hyphens can lead to the following problems:

- if your domain name has a hyphen (e.g. big-fish.co.uk) then your email address will also have a hyphen (e.g. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). When people ask you for your email address, perhaps over the phone, they might not remember the hyphen when they are typing the email to you. Hyphens look good when they are printed perhaps on business cards or stationary, but they are not great to remember in your customer's head. Some people might forget the hyphen when typing an email to you, and end up sending their email to a competitor who owns the unhyphenated version of your domain name (e.g. an email sent accidentally to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it would end up going to the owner of the different domain name bigfish.co.uk - an entirely different company's email system. This might mean you lose a crucial enquiry, or even that a competitor might receive an email from a new/prospective client letting them know who you are doing business with.

- you might lose an email that someone sends to you , but unfortunately the mis-spell your email address, and it ends up going to a competitor. This could be a problem if the email contained any confidential or financial information.

- a prospective client phones your company, you give them your website address for further information, they remember the website address, but forget to type the hyphen and end up being directed to a competitor who has a similar domain name.

Clearly, you need to think twice before registering domain names that contain a hyphen.  unhyphenated domain names are easier for your administrative
